On April 12th, during the Paris Art Walk about 200 citizens young and old visited the all city and county wide Middle School Art Competition. Many of these visitors voted - a few said they were all too good for them to make a decision.
The entries with the most votes were as follows : 1st place was Cassie Layne Mattingly of Bourbon Christian Academy( sketch of a bass). Second Place was Luke Beauman of St. Mary's(scuba diver) .3rd Place was Sonja Collins of Bourbon County (deadly warning of pollution). Honorable mentions were Gabe Campbell of Bourbon County( poisonous effects of pollution on animals and vegetation). Case Davies of Bourbon County (portrays two bioscopes one ruined environment and one saved environment asking Which one?). Sara Scott of ( scuba diver Asking us to think of life without water). Tyra Meeks of Bourbon County (depicting concerns of impact of distillery on the creek) Sophia Prichard of Bourbon County ( Shows all the effluent that possibly flows into a cup of drinking water). Abby Traylor of Bourbon County( asking us to save the fish -shows fish that has eaten trash) and Eme Tucker of Bourbon County( old tires clogging creek above dam.)
An Environmental Educator, Kara Sayles, from the environmental group Green Source was at the art walk. Kara spent three class periods with all these middle school students( after conferring with the art teachers in each school.)The students were learning about our ecosystems and the importance of preserving them in a healthy balance. ( This was a total of 12 sessions.)
Thanks to a grant from American Water Company the FOSC was able to furnish all the art teachers with money for supplies and possible trips to support this art project). This is just one part of this ECCE grant( Educating Citzens on Creek Environment
These images will be used to decorate the August 3rd FOSC Picnic held on the banks of Stoner Creek There will be rides on the creek , an educational booth by GreenSource , art displays, musical entertainment and a bring - a - dish supper. The whole community is invited to join in the fun.
The Musical Chairs Style of get-together will be in place (bring-a- dish,your favorite chairs and drink).
The students art work will also decorate the tickets and any images used for advertisement of the picnic.
